Ghost Town

There are ghost towns in the desert of our lives
the tumbleweeds they roll
Shuttered windows, creaking floors
neglect has taken its toll

Where once was gold and vibrancy,
discovery in the air
The wind runs through streets alone
no music is found there

It’s not that we have never tried
to find the treasure rare
That once did fill the streams and hills
and first did draw us there

It just is gone, no matter the try
the dirt is all we find
An empty pan will clarify
the empty heart and mind

No one wants to celebrate
when gold is not to be found
No dancing girls, no honky tonk
no elixir flowing down

That is why it’s a ghost town
the people they are gone
Without the value of the gold
the life it just moves on

The love of gold is not the answer
The answer…is the gold of Love
A mine that never runs out of value
From the depths to the heights above

Dig you may, an entire lifetime
The end you’ll never see
For the value of the greatest shine
Will not, with the using flee

The town is real, it is not a ghost
Its vibrancy is alive and bold
When Love is at the foundation
The streets are paved with gold
