Week #32 Backyard

The peaceful dove sits on the neighbor’s roof
Shingles radiating heat and comfort
While water cascades down the fountain
And the blue jay seems aloof

Vapor trails painted in the sky
By unwitting planes
Among the temporary cirrus clouds
And distant whistles of trains

Sparrows call to order a meeting at the birdfeeder
Amongst the jasmine and bougainvillea
Twinkle lights strung from palms trees
Whose ignorant fronds
Have no idea

Pines reaching high and looking down
from their skyboxes
Sheltering their treasures
And various kit foxes

The crack of well-done almonds
The smell of island get-aways
Caress my rest
And amuse the flying jays
