I’m on the doorstep of heaven
The threshold of vast
Stars stretch out before me
Like future and past
The rocky-mountain view
The scented forest moon
Caress my city heart
Within its loving womb
The creamy milky way
Stretched out eternally
Inviting open space
Has also welcomed me
To this mountain heaven home
With sunrise granite glow
Its meadow of surprise
Few will ever know
The road ahead is clear
The joy is in the roam
Intoxicating pines
Of heaven’s doorstep home

Note:
This poem was inspired by our visit to Dave and Jean VanDenBerg’s home in Markleeville near Lake Tahoe. Watching falling stars in the night sky while lying in bed and arising to the sun exploding off the tops of the mountains. Amazing memories have been permanently etched.
