Poems A-Z The Trail

Footsteps of faith trod to the horizon,

making a path that wasn’t there before

Impressions made are soon forgotten,

when following travelers walk on no more

This little trail with humble beginnings,

proves a truth that’s plain to see

It runs along a simple pathway,

avoiding cliffs or branch and tree

Treachery lies just to the side,

steepest climb waits up ahead

Easy going was not the promise,

creature comforts long since fled

Across the desert the trail leads,

thirsty pilgrim for water begs

A mirage appearing just ahead,

salvation’s cup holds only dregs

The trail becomes a bigger path now,

ever widening with traverse

Gentle snow falls on its banks,

deeper wounds to heal and nurse

Spring and summer warm their welcome,

shedding tears impressions make

Dangerous travels on mud and gravel,

make a slippery slope to take

The road is set the path is marked,

forever etched upon the land

What now becomes a busy highway,

once was just a trail of sand
